Almost There

Each day sees the bathroom get closer to completion. Yesterday the plumber came back to fit the bath and various drains, and today we got the flooring laid down ready for the rest of the suite to go on top. Roll on the rest of the week...

Now the floor is down the bath can get its panels fitted

Here's the unit that will shortly house the wash basin

Finally Some Colour

In the final run up to moving in, the bathroom saw its first lick of coloured paint. As the bath is going in tomorrow and the vinyl down on Tuesday we figured now was the best time! Natural Calico and Sage anyone? (A bit patchy as it hasn't dried yet). These colours complement our new tiles perfectly (but we haven't bought them yet!)

Getting There

The bathroom has taken another step forward. Having sorted all the pipework the room has now been boarded and plastered, and thanks to the heating it's nearly dry already!

So, nearly there, just needs... a lick of paint... some floorboards replacing... bathroom suite fitting... vinyl floor laid... tiles fitted... shower installed... oh, and the spots putting in those holes in the ceiling. Did we mention in a fortnight we plan to move in? :o)

In the Trenches

Work is well under way with the bathroom now, so the time has come to get the trench dug out ready for the new soil pipe for the relocated toilet. I was joined by Jac's dad, Norman, and together we first dug a pilot hole to find the existing sewer pipe, followed a little while later (in better weather) by the trench which would carry the new waste pipe to a new junction in the exposed sewer pipe. Big thanks to Norm for his help here...the man knows how to dig a good trench!

The existing sewer pipe was eventually found 3 feet down running across the front of the house. We excavated the area to allow the builder access to work, then ran the trench back up the side of the house towards the bathroom. The trench was sloped to allow a good 'flow' from around 18 inches back down to the 3 foot hole.

We've Got Heating!

After months of working in what felt like an ice house, this week saw lots of changes and we've finally got a new boiler, new plumbing, new radiators, hot water and heating. Giddyup!

Hot and cold feed and return going up to the new boiler in the loft

Spaghetti junction

Lovely new warm radiator and no need
to be 8ft long like the old one

The rebuild starts, but the demolition continues...

End of the third weekend and Saturday saw us call in the favours of our friend Gaz for the first round of plaster boarding duties. Myself and Gaz started on the front bedroom ceiling - Jac's a bit gutted she can't help here, but we're both 6 foot+ and she's only a short arse who can't even touch the ceiling (on steps!).

The rebuild...

She made up for it though by making a start on getting the tiles off the bathroom walls...

Looking good, but safety first!

We only left her alone for a short while and look what happens...did I mentioned her dad is a demolition man...

Like father like daughter

Another find!

Today Jac found a surprise lurking in the very back of the airing cupboard! Behind many rolls of old old wallpaper was a roll of old newspapers. After carefully unrolling them we found a selection of memorial issues from most of the major newspapers covering the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill in January 1965. They all seem to be in pretty good condition, they just need carefully flattening out and storing.

Pics to follow...
